IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF POPE JOHN PAUL II

Day 1 ARRIVAL, CRACOW

Airport pick-up, transfer to hotel in Krakow.

In the evening meeting with the pilot of the group.

Welcome dinner.

Day 2 CZĘSTOCHOWA - KRAKÓW

Breakfast.

Drive towards Częstochowa. Sighteesin one of the most important sanctuary in Poland – Monastery of the Pauline Fathers at Jasna Góra. The tradition of pilgrimages to Jasna Góra dates back to the beginnings of the monastery in 1382. Jasna Góra Monastery with its most important buildings - Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the basilica, the tower, the Knights’ hall, the Arsenal and the Treasury – is a testament to the history of events past and present. In museums of Jasna Góra are collected numerous works of art.

Return to Krakow, a walk “Following John Paul II”, Franciscan streer, Bishop’s Palace, monument of Pope St. John  Paul II, St. Florian’s Basilica, Matejko square.

In the evening return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 KRAKÓW – ŁAGIEWNIKI

Breakfast.

Further sightseeing of Krakow - Barbakan, the Gate, Florian street, Market Square with Cloth Hall, the monument of Adam Mickiewicz, the tower of Town Hall, St. Mary’s Basilica with its famous Alterpiece of Veit Stoss of late Gothic design, Church of St. Adalbert ( St. Wojciech ). Walk to the Wawel Hill. Visiting: St. Wenceslas and Stanislal Cathedral, Sigmund Chapel, crypts and the Royal Palace ( from outside ).

Transfer to Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Łagiewniki. Visiting the chapel of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy and the new Basilica of Divine Mercy, consecrated by Pope St. John Paul II in 2002.

In the evening transfer to the hotel in Zakopane for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 ZAKOPANE

Breakfast.

Walk in the capital of the Polish Tatras – Krupówki, Krupówki, St. John the Evangelist Church – the oldest church in Zakopane, Cemetery Meritorious Pęksowy Brzyzek.

Visiting the chapel on Jaszczurówka. Sightseeing the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima in Zakopane Krzeptówki ( gratitude for saving John Paul in 1981 ). The temple was consecrated by Pope John Paul II, June 7, 1997. In the so-called Park Fatima in the sanctuary was places the altar where John Paul II celebrated a mass in Zakopane on June 6, 1997.

In the evening return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 POPRAD - MARIÁNSKA HORA

Breakfast.

Transfer to the Slovak town of Poprad. Walk on beatifully restored market with neticular plan, surrounded by baroque and neoclassical houses. St. Giles church, built in early Gothic style is dominating above the market. Visiting St. Cyril and St. Methodius church, with chapel of St. Joseph situated nearby.

Transfer to the Marian shrine Mariánska Hora – the destination of many pilgrimages.

July 3, 1995, Pope John Paul II celebrated a mass for 650 000 faithful. A large share of pilgrims prove that people find here peace of mind, optimism and lost hope.

In the evening drive to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 KALWARIA ZEBRZYDOWSKA - WADOWICE

Breakfast.

Drive to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. Sightseeing the Mannerist Architectural and Park Landscape Complex and Pilgrimage Park ( miraculous image of Our Lady of Kalwaria ). Pope John Paul II has repeatedly stressed his multiple relationships with the shrine of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska to which he pilgrimaged since childhood. Walk the Calvary Paths.

Transfer to Wadowice – visiting the Basilic of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary where Karol Wojtyła was baptized. Visiting the museum – family home of John Paul II.

Free time, opportunity to purchase the famous cream cakes.

Return to the hotel in  Krakow for overnight stay. The end of the tour program.
